Early results favour Libs
RESULTS from today's Legislative Council elections are beginning to roll in, with early indications that voters have favoured conservative candidates.
Tasmanians went to the polls today in the Greater Hobart seats of Nelson and Pembroke and the North West seat of Montgomery.
In Nelson , incumbent Jim Wilkinson so far has 48.2 per cent of the vote with over a quarter of votes counted.
Greens candidate Tom Baxter is next on 21.1 per cent and early indications are the result may come down to preferences.
Mr Baxter has polled very strongly in Fern Tree.
In the Eastern Shore seat of Pembroke, sitting Liberal MLC Vanessa Goodwin is in a strong position with 53.3 per cent of votes counted.
Independent candidate and former Labor MLC Allison Ritchie is off to a good start with 34.71 per cent.
In Montgomery Liberal Candidate and farmer Leonie Hiscutt is in front with 48.17 per cent of the vote, her main challenger is Central Coast deputy mayor and Independent Cheryl Fuller who currently has 27.1 per cent of the votes counted.
The seat is up for grabs following the retirement of long-serving MLC Sue Smith.
More to come.
